Happy-Senior-CoupleHow Much Does Assisted Living Cost?

The price of assisted living varies based on a variety factors, including the apartment style you choose and how much help you need throughout the day. Before you arrive, we will work together to create a custom service plan that meets your unique needs. That way, you will only pay for the services that you need.

We believe in providing transparent pricing from the start so that you have a realistic idea of how much it will cost and can make an informed decision about your future. Keep in mind that when you live at home, you make separate payments for many expenses, including your mortgage or rent, groceries, utilities, property taxes, healthcare, entertainment, and transportation. When you join a senior community, we will be bundling all of these costs into one monthly bill. Not only can this lower the overall cost, but also it eliminates the hassle of paying multiple bills each month.

In addition, please note that Medicare and other federal programs typically don’t cover the cost of assisted living. Most residents and their families pay for care using personal savings, assets, or long-term care insurance.

Elderly-Care-OutdoorWhen Is It Time for Assisted Living?

With its custom care plans, exceptional amenities, social events, and on-site perks like restaurant-style dining and beauty shops, assisted living is a wonderful option for many seniors. But how will you know when it’s time for assisted living?

Transitioning to a senior community is a big decision, and sometimes that decision can feel overwhelming and stressful. Even if you’re excited about the possibilities presented by assisted living, you want to be sure that you’re making the right choice.

Ultimately, no one can answer the question for you. We encourage you to discuss the idea with trusted friends, family members, and your doctor so that you can make an informed decision about your future. While everyone’s situation is different, people who choose assisted living often express sentiments like the following:

  • I wish I had more time to relax and do the things I love.
  • I could use a little help in my day-to-day life – with cooking, cleaning, managing medications, etc.
  • I’m craving more social interaction. I feel a little lonely on my own.
  • I’m struggling to get around in my home and take care of necessary tasks, like bathing and getting ready for the day.
  • My loved ones are concerned about my safety. I would feel more secure in a senior community.
  • I’m bored. I wish I had more opportunities to make friends, learn new things, and stay active.

If these statements hit home for you, consider joining an assisted living community.

How Is Assisted Living Different from a Nursing Home?

An assisted living community is designed to combine freedom and quality care. While residents live in their own apartments and have access to community amenities and perks, they may also receive help from staff members with daily tasks like bathing, getting ready for the day, and managing medications. On the other hand, skilled nursing communities (sometimes called nursing homes) provide a variety of healthcare resources, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and include round-the-clock nursing care. So if you’re deciding between the two, think about the level of care and support you need. And if you aren’t sure whether you need assisted living or skilled nursing care, that’s fine! Our staff can assess your needs and create a customized care plan.

Yoga-Teacher-with-Seniors-at-the-ParkWhat Is Life Like at an Assisted Living Community?

Every resident at The Gables on Pelham has unique hobbies and interests. Some residents spend a lot of time playing cards with their buddies, while others enjoy yoga classes and live music. Some residents enjoy arts and crafts, while others would prefer to spend time in the garden or at an educational workshop. We believe that every resident deserves to live his or her best life, so we offer a vast array of activities and amenities to suit our residents’ needs.

Because residents don’t have to worry about household chores like cooking, cleaning, and yard work, they’re free to spend their time doing what they like. We encourage them to embrace their passions and focus on their physical, mental, and emotional health.

You could start your day off with coffee in the courtyard, a long stroll with your dog, or breakfast with friends. After enjoying a delicious lunch, you might wish to attend a fitness class, play a lively round of Wii bowling, or have your hair trimmed at the on-site barber/beauty shop. In the afternoon, perhaps you’ll go on an excursion to a local attraction, tend to the garden, or enjoy some quiet time with a good book. And in the evening, you might watch a movie with friends, play a game of bridge, or write in your journal. You could stick to a rigorous daily schedule or fly by the seat of your pants. The choice is yours!

This is the beginning of an amazing new chapter in your life – filled with fun times, new friendships, and plenty of relaxation.
